A significant theme expressed throughout the novel, Oryx & Crake is morality. I believe that the strongest character, morally, within the novel is Oryx. Regardless of her past experiences, she is able to move on, and live life with integrity. To be able to do this, requires immense amounts of strength. Oryx was sold at a young age, with her brother, and eventually forcibly ended up in child pornography. Her immoral acts were broad casted over the Internet for literally degrading people to watch, such as Crake and Jimmy. Even though Oryx endured substantially brutal events, she still is able to articulate morality and integrity through her daily life. Whenever Jimmy attempts to ask her about her past, she reacts in a diplomatic manner, and expresses the positive aspects that came out of the situation. Although many people believe that a "moral" person would stand up for brutal behaviour, I believe that it takes a lot for someone to respect themselves so much, as to forget about their past. Oryx is an admirable character because of this, and as a result, she is the most moral character within the novel.
